Seaweed collections

Residents may collect seaweed for composting at their homes as long as they follow the DEECA (Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action) policy, which highlights that residents can remove seaweed from beaches outside of marine sanctuaries. A total of two plastic shopping bags daily. (e.g. Coles shopping bag).

Werribee South dredging

Wyndham City, together with Parks Victoria and DEECA dredge at Werribee South. Parks Victoria is responsible for maintaining dredging in and around the Werribee River entrance, following natural sand build-up which has created a hazard for recreational and commercial boat operators.

Dredged sand may look and smell mildly unpleasant when it first comes out of the water, but with exposure to the air and sun, the sand bleaches to its normal colour and loses its odour. Residents waiting to receive email notifications about this and future maintenance dredging works at Werribee River entrance, email the Parks Victoria maintenance dredging team at dredging@parks.vic.gov.au.
