Tree Removal
Trees play an essential role in making Wyndham an attractive, healthy and sustainable place. They provide significant benefits by improving air quality, providing shade, reducing stormwater runoff, and improving the streetscape.
Tree and stump removal on public land
- Wyndham City's Arboriculture team is responsible for maintaining street trees, park trees, and those on nature strips. Tree removal will only be approved for trees that are dead, dying, or diseased.
- When you request a tree assessment, an arborist will inspect the tree to determine the best course of action. Removal is considered a last resort, with all other options explored first. If a tree on public land is removed, it will be replaced with a new one to maintain our urban greenery.
- After removal, the tree stump will be marked and placed on a list for removal, which typically takes 6 weeks. If the stump remains after six weeks, you can submit a request for its removal.
Planning Permit
- If you want to remove, destroy, trim, or prune native vegetation, you usually need a Planning Permit. However, there are exemptions stated in Clause 52.17 of the Wyndham Planning Scheme, which may allow you to do so without a permit.
- For instance, if your land is less than 4000 square metres and has no tree protection controls, you may not need a permit to remove, destroy, trim, or prune native vegetation, including dead vegetation. It's essential to check with the Town Planning Department before taking any action to determine if a permit is necessary.
- To determine if a permit is required, refer to the Native Vegetation Removal Regulations Applicants Guide on our website.
