It is the responsibility of Builders to know the requirements of residential building sites and to ensure their sites are kept in a clean and safe manner throughout the construction period.

Building site non-compliance - Reportable issues

Compliance or safety issues with buildings and construction sites can be reported to Council. More information is available on the Building Site Requirement page on our website.

Some examples of non-compliant could include:

Bins - full and overflowing
Litter issues on-site and litter dumped on adjoining properties.
Loud music from building sites
Mud tracked onto roads due to the building site
Out-of-hours noise
Polystyrene
Safety issues
Signage issues
Temporary Fencing
Toilet facilities
Unsightly Skip or Trade Waste Bins (Includes skip bin on the nature strip and litter overflowing/outside of the skip bin)

When building works begin, builders should organise:

Management and control of building rubbish on and around the site	Identification of the site from the street	Handwashing and temporary toilet
A bin with a fixed, closed lid for waste on the building site and have it emptied regularly	* The owner/builder must provide a clearly defined sign in front of the property, which can be seen from the road. This sign must be maintained and not removed until building work is completed. * Site fencing must be installed, such as temporary fencing * The owner or builder must put up a 1.8-metre-high fence around the entire site, and it must stay up until the building is complete.	A temporary toilet with handwashing facilities must always be provided on a building site.
