Aquatic Facilities, Swimming Pool and Spas
Public aquatic facilities, like swimming pools and spas, promote active, healthy lifestyles but can pose health risks if not managed properly. Contaminated water, surfaces, or contact can spread harmful germs, especially affecting young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems.
When Council Investigates
Our team investigates reports made to us about:
- Dirty or unsafe water quality
- Unclean surfaces or areas
- Poor swimmer hygiene
Regulating swimming pools
Swimming pools, spa's, and water play areas are regulated by councils under the Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008 and related Water Quality Guidelines.
- Operators of pools and spas must follow rules to keep water clean and safe for everyone.
- For more information on how pools are regulated, please visit the Department of Health Aquatic Facilities in Victoria page.
