Abandoned Shopping Trolley

Last updated on: 28 May 2025
Shopping trolleys are the property of the store they belong to. When not returned, they can become a safety hazard, causing accidents, blocking drains, and creating an eyesore in the area they're left in.

Reporting an abandoned shopping trolley

Shopping trolleys left outside designated areas can obstruct footpaths, roads, and parks, posing risks to pedestrians and vehicles. Please report abandoned trolleys to Trolley Tracker.
Shopping trolleys in waterways (swamps, ponds, lakes) are the responsibility of Melbourne Water.
If you find an abandoned shopping trolley on private property, including vacant land and private car parks, please contact the store directly.
Council does not remove shopping trolleys from private property.
