Abandoned or Unregistered Vehicles
In this article
A vehicle will be considered abandoned if:
- It is unregistered. You can check if a vehicle is registered on the VicRoads website. This will show if the vehicle is unregistered or stolen.
- Registered but has not moved in more than 2 months.
Reports we cannot investigate
Please get in touch with the appropriate authority if the vehicle is:
- On private property, including shopping centre car parks. Please report to the property owner.
- Dumped in water. Please report to the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action
Illegal parking
If the vehicle being reported is illegally parked, please proceed with an Illegal Parking request instead.
Raise a request
When submitting a request, provide as much detail as possible so we can assist you in processing your request. If possible, attach a photo of the issue you are reporting.
We'll investigate within ten business days. If a vehicle is unregistered or abandoned, we'll place a sticker on it with advice for the owner to move the vehicle within a set time.
